The Smith Club kicked off the month by gathering to create care packages to send to current Smithies. Members from classes 1973-2017 filled about 190 bags with stress relievers, snacks, and notes of encouragement to help  NYC-area students make it through their finals. We hope you'll finish out the year with us, too!

Already ordered yours and looking for inspiration? Here is a favorite recipe from Dorothy Lobrano Guth '50, who started the NY Smith Club's pecan tradition:
Creole Pralines


2 cups white sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar
¼ lb. butter
1 cup milk
2 tbsp. corn syrup
4 cups PECAN halves
1. Combine all ingredients except pecans in a heavy 3-quart saucepan. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring constantly after the boil is reached.  
2. Add pecans and continue cooking until mixture forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water.
3. Arrange several sheets of waxed paper over layers of newspapers. Stir the praline mixture well and drop by tablespoons onto the sheets of waxed paper. Let cool.
4. When cool, stack the pralines in an airtight container with waxed paper between the layers.  
Makes 2 dozen
