a retrospective of the work of contemporary
American artist Kerry James Marshall,
led by Danielle Parker '86
Marshall is an inspired and imaginative chronicler of the African-American experience, known for large-scale narrative history paintings featuring black figures. His exploration of art history ranges from the Renaissance to 20th-century American abstraction. The New Yorker described the exhibition as having "a breakthrough feel: the suggestion of a new normal, in art and in the national consciousness."
