Letter from Smith Club President Margarita Ameglio Bloch’77
As incoming President, I would like to greet current and prospective members and encourage you to become active in the Club and make use of the rich resources we provide. The Club’s primary role is to link alums to one another and to Smith. We do this by hosting cultural and educational events, raising monies for the Smith Scholarship fund, and providing an array of networking opportunities.
An overview of Club activities would include:
- the annual Membership party in September, when we all reconvene after the summer hiatus to greet each other and new alums;
- regular monthly events, including knitting, needlework, and book groups, PennySmith Partners, and networking luncheons at the National Arts Club;
- cultural events at area museums (e.g. Asia Society, Studio Museum of Harlem)—often done jointly with other Seven Sisters, Columbia, and Princeton clubs;
- educational events featuring alumnae lectures and panels on a wide range of topics (e.g. financial planning, women’s health, current events);
- targeted activities for Young Alums;
- working committees, including Admissions, Interterm, IT/Communications;
- annual benefit and pecan sales to raise monies for the Scholarship fund.
In addition, the Club offers membership privileges at several other Manhattan clubs, including the Princeton Club in midtown. All of these are listed on the membership form.
Come join the fun and stay connected! Hope to see you at our next event.
Marge Bloch’ 77, President
