PECANS HALVES AND CHOCOLATE-COVERED PECANS

Plain halves are $10 per pound and chocolate covered are $12 per 12 ounce bag. They make a great hostess gift.

Not sure what do to with pecans? Try this simple recipe for sugared pecans from Club president Lara Marcon ‘91:

16 oz. plain pecan halves (one pound)
16 oz. water (2 cups)
16 Tbsp. brown sugar (heaping – you don’t have to measure)
You can use any type of pan you like and a slotted or wooden spoon. Boil the water then spoon in the sugar. Simmer until it thickens a bit. Add pecans and continue cooking, stirring regularly. When the water has nearly evaporated, remove from heat and continue stirring until the mixture dries. In the last step you can add cinnamon or other spice as desired. Cool in a single layer on a baking sheet or wax paper.
